Materials & Methods
Prior to the face-to-face meeting, a survey was circulated to all members of this working group to identify common potential pitfalls or missteps in the management of IBD that are often encountered in their practices. All responses collected were then summarized and collated into different areas of IBD management. After further deliberation via email communication, a list of 10 common missteps in IBD management were drawn up and recirculated to all members for further comments and revision. The face-to-face meeting was a whole day meeting in which the initially identified common mistakes were presented by a member and followed by whole group discussion. The final version has been compiled in this report (Table 1).
Conclusion
This review attempts to summarize 10 common pitfalls in managing IBD in Asia. With increasing incidence and prevalence of IBD in Asia as well as the availability of multiple advanced therapies, this article could serve as a guidance for Asian clinicians in navigating the complex management pathway of IBD patients from experiences of other clinicians.
